It's October 4, and incredibly, there hasn't been a hard frost yet in my corner of upstate New York. So here's a quick look at the plants still blooming in my garden.
Zinnias, including this amazing tri-colored one. See the variegation top to bottom, from peach to deep red?
Hydrangea, one of my favorites.
A delicate pink fairy rose.
And a butterfly bush. But wait, that's no butterfly, is it?
The forecast calls for much colder weather this weekend, so I'm trying to appreciate all of this before it's covered by a blanket of winter white. As pretty as fall is, it seems to me like it's the shortest season of all.

Beautiful! We are enjoying extended warm and dry weather here in Portland, too, and I am almost embarassed to say I am more than ready for a good rain. My garden is desperate for a good soak!
