The answer to the Dumpster Dilemma is a resounding "yes." Not only did most commenters think that a Dumpster at an estate sale is a good thing; they also wondered if I had taken a look inside.
Well, I didn't. But not because the thought didn't cross my mind as well. It just wasn't the right time or place for a Dumpster dive. But a few days later, certainly enabled by the comments, I did the next best thing.
I was driving to work when I came across this by the side of the road.
And next to it was a large clear plastic bag that seemed to contain a few treasures as well. Could that be a child-size pink hanger? And speaking of pink, were those pink mercury glass balls in there too?
What to do. What to do. I have never opened a bag of someone's "trash." Honest. Not even during Spring Cleanup. But, really, who puts pink mercury glass balls in the "trash"?
I didn't have time for a lengthy on-the-spot debate, so the bag went into the van and I went to work. Later, in the comfort of my 30-degree garage, I took a closer look and found a few treasures in the trash.
And those pink mercury glass balls turned out to be just that. There were also several frosty pine picks and a milk glass planter that I swear weighs at least 10 pounds.
But the best thing was something that I didn't expect.
It was a trio of cute little frames of ballerina girls (and ballerina cats). They need a little TLC so I plan to give them a bit of a makeover.
In the end, my curbside pick paid off and I have my enablers to thank for that. But contrary to the title of this post, reassured that if everyone was jumping off a bridge, I would have my feet firmly planted on the ground.
There are some bridges that we just don't jump off...dumpsters are a whole different story! Glad you came to the rescue with some vintage finds! (and why do people toss stuff like that?)

I once found an old tool box on the curb that contained what seemed to be model shipbuilding supplies. My husband loved the tool box and he sorted thorugh what was inside and found some to toss and some to keep - and an envelope of real gold leaf sheets!

I wonder if the previous owner knew someone would be along to rescue these things so they protected them in a plastic bag...at least that's what I'm telling myself. It's hard to imagine simply tossing out pink mercury glass for crying out loud. :-)
