I guess I can stop hitting the panic button because it looks like my junkin' gene is still intact. This is what I found in week five of Spring Cleanup. I decided to junk early on Friday night, and I was rewarded. (Yes, I know, it is a sad commentary on my life that this is what is fun on a Friday night.)
I was excited to find two pairs of old ice skates because lately, I'm obsessed with old skates, thanks to Heidi. I'm trying to figure out how make my own vintage blue ice skates, and if I do, I tell you how I did it.
There were also these kitschy Christmas wreaths, which are a wonder in plastic but might have been stored a little too close to the mothballs in someone's attic. I'll see if a good soaking can take care of that.
My favorite find was this little shelf, which oozes cottage charm, Or at least it will when I paint it some charming cottage color.
And finally, this week's giveaway item: an Ohio Art Co. metal globe. Full disclosure here: It's a globe without a base that definitely shows its age, which I'm guessing is circa 1960 or so.
But, hey, you're a creative bunk of bloggers, aren't you? I'm sure that someone out there can make a slightly dented metal globe without a base look like something that you might see in Country Living. If you want to give it a shot, leave me a comment before midnight Friday.
P.S. The winner of the manger and the children's books is Betty of DayDreamingWorld.
Great finds and good luck on fixing up the skates and the shelf unit! I would be happy to win the globe! I don't have a fireplace, but I did see a magazine photo in which the homeowners had piled a bunch of vintage globes in their fireplace.

Great finds - love that shelf. It would be awesome white or pink or blue or green or, or or....
Also, wanted to say that Holly is really Heidi.

Oops. Thanks Shara for being an editor's editor. I knew her name is Heidi but my finger typed Holly. It's all good now, thanks to you.

Could the skates be dyed blue the way that bridesmaid's shoes are dyed (or used to be dyed - I have no idea if that's still done)? They throw away good stuff out in your neighborhood.

Nice finds again. That globe would be pretty kickin' in our home office, which my husband has declared the explorers room. It would be in keeping with the 60s silliness we keep acquiring for our mid 60s home. No one ever tosses anything fun around here- I just have to be content hitting up the sales when we can.

I would just paint the skates. And add some fur from a thrifted fur coat. They are gorgeous!!
In fact, after I saw this post, I'm going to get one of the white pair I have and trim it with some white bunny fur I bought a few weeks back. Excited!

Does the globe have holes top and bottom? If so, I can envision it hanging somewhere. Or maybe nestled in a wooden box. What if it were split in half (near the equator!) and then you'd have two domes to use to cover plates of food at a picnic. Or two bowls to hold chips? OK that's all I've got. I'm exhausted!
