I must have a split personality. At the same time that I'm trying to get rid of Christmas things, I am buying Christmas things.
But only because I love vintage Christmas, and only because the thrift stores have finally hauled out their stash of Christmas items from wherever they keep it all year long.
But I am being very, very picky about what I buy. Which isn't that hard to do, because there's a whole lot of Christmas crap out there.
In most thrift stores that I've been to the display looks something like this.
You know, a random heap of junk dumped on a table. And that means I find far more of this ...
Scary, huh? And this ... (No, I don't know what it is).
But every so often there is something good, something that's vintage and worth buying, like this partridge tablecloth.
Or these sweet little ornaments that are the perfect size for a feather tree.
Or these HRM cookie cutters.
And this jumbo-sized roll of wrapping paper.
I actually found the same kind of paper last year in a poinsettia pattern.
And so far, this has been the best find. I may have even heard a choir of heavenly voices (maybe they were singing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah?) when this turned up at the bottom of another pile.
Of course it's a find like this that keeps me going to the thrifts at this time of year, and gives me faith that somewhere in all those piles of Christmas crap that there's a treasure or two. I hope you find one too.
