I planned to label this post Progress & Patience, because I was going to moan about the lack of good sales on a holiday weekend, and that I only needed to be patient and something good would come along. But then I went to an "80 years of accumulation" estate sale with Barb, and I had nothing to complain about.
Barb found her usual assortment of eBay and Etsy treasures. My big buy were these pipe cleaners, which surely must have taken someone 80 years to accumulate. I, on the other hand, scooped them up in less than 10 seconds. Why? Funny, that's what Mr. VS keeps asking me. Here's why: First, because they were insanely cheap, and second, because I seemed destined to buy them. A few weeks ago, at a rummage sale, I found the 1950s pipe cleaner craft instructions pictured with the pipe cleaners.
As for progress, I've actually worked on some of my projects. I spray-painted the metal Christmas tree pole to match the antique white of the tree's boughs, which made me start to wonder what I was going to do with the not so vintage-looking plastic tree stand.
I'm leaning toward covering it up with a tree skirt made from this vintage fabric, which also seems to be the choice of Ooudou, one of our cats.
I also read about how to transfer the clothespin apron design using a iron-on transfer pencil, which I picked up at Joann Fabric, along with some muslim for the apron. So maybe within days, I'll be embroidering. Or maybe not.
Finally, Laurie has graciously offered to serve as my craft consultant for the makeover of my headless snowman.
Now for the patience part. (See how I made you wait for that?) I'm counting down the days to two junkin' events that I look forward to every summer. First up is the 50 Mile Garage Sale, also known as the Route 90 sale, which will be the last weekend in July. Then, in mid-August, is the Bouckville-Madison Outdoor Antiques Show. I'll be writing much more about both events soon. For now, if you're curious, you can read this post and this post.
Keep me posted on the snowman. I would have scooped up all those pipe cleaners too...they don't make them like they used to!
